SUBJECTS TAUGHT:
Physics KS3, 4 and 5, Oxbridge applications and Personal Statements
TUTORING & TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
The subject I am passionate about is Physics and I have taught physics for all of my teaching career. For the last 17 years, I taught at Ockbrook School, where I was Head of Physics, STEM Coordinator and also Head of Sixth Form. I am proud to say that physics was one of the most popular subjects at Ockbrook School and this was matched by the excellent results attained by my students. Since 2008, I have been employed as a consultant by the Institute of Physics to support the teaching of physics by training other teachers whether they be specialist on non-specialist teachers.
My teaching experience and training other teachers has allowed me to develop not only an in-depth knowledge of my subject, but also an understanding of misconceptions students may have and how to tackle them.
I have tutored many private students at both GCSE and A Level in physics. I am therefore experienced in teaching students with different levels of ability and attitudes towards learning. I pride myself on my empathetic and patient approach and this, alongside my subject knowledge and teaching experience, allows me to get the best out of my students.
It is no exaggeration that I have a huge amount of physics equipment at home! So you can also be assured that I will always perform relevant demonstrations during our tutoring to enhance your learning of physics.
I have been teaching for 28 years and have taught at four different schools. At my last place of employment, I was Head of Physics, Head of Sixth Form and STEM Coordinator. Since 2008, I have been working as a consultant for the Institute of Physics and this role involved delivering CPD to any involved in the teaching of physics. Since July 2021, I have been working as a consultant for Physics Partners delivering CPD to specialist and non-specialist teachers of physics.
